The gay friendly Sol Barbacan has a lot going for it. First off, it's an aparthotel, offering the freedom of self catering alongside the benefits of staying in a well run, good quality hotel. Secondly, it's part of the respected Melia Hotels group, so you can be sure of a certain level of reassuring quality and, thirdly, it's just a couple of hundred metres from the Yumbo Center & gay bars and a leisurely fifteen minute sashay to the beach.
Gay friendly for sure, but also popular with families during the school holiday season, this is not the place for you if you’re looking for Queersville-by-the-Sea, but if the sexuality of your fellow guests is of little or no importance, you could do a lot worse than this conveniently located, well maintained holiday home.
We rather like aparthotels, primarily because they give you the freedom of self-catering with all the benefits of staying in a hotel. So, although you're booked into the impressive Sol Barbacŕn on a bed and breakfast basis, you're actually accommodated in an apartment with full self-catering facilities. Either way, the quality here is excellent and anyone choosing to holiday at the Sol Barbacán can't fail to be impressed.
General Facilities
The Sol Barbacan's two pools are undoubtedly the complex's focal points. One can be heated in winter and both are served by generous sunbathing terraces adorned with tall palms and bright blooms. A poolside bar ensures that you’ll never too far from your next Bacardi and Coke and a Jacuzzi beckons when you fancy a change of scene and a bit of bubble action.
Tennis courts and a gym are on hand if you feel like breaking into a sweat outside the bedroom, and there's an on site supermarket to ensure that your fridge is stocked with all your favourite bits and pieces. Two restaurants complete the picture: the first is where you'll have breakfast (everyone's booked on a bed a breakfast basis) and there's also an a la carte option for some fancy dining
Room facilities
The Sol Barbacan can be divided into two. A main building which houses one and two bedroom apartments, all of which have a pool view, and another area where you'll find the two bedroom bungalows.
All apartments and bungalows are air conditioned and are equipped with fitted kitchens (kettle, toaster, oven, ceramic hob, microwave included) while the bungalows have a proper fridge freezer rather than a fridge with a freezer compartment.
The bungalows have an additional dining area with a table and four chairs, two terraces (one on the flat and the other on the roof), sunbeds with mattresses, direct access to the terrace from the master bedroom, high quality furniture and an extra storage room.
Bungalows also boast two bathrooms, one ensuite, while the two bedroom apartments have one bathroom, and the one bedroom apartments have a smaller bathroom with a separate loo.
Maid service – including the changing of towels – takes place daily and your bedlinen in changed three times a week.
