 The Anco hotel-bar is a living tradition in the Amsterdam Gay scene, strategically located in the city center, on a canal just a few blocks away from the infamous Warmoestraat bars.
Our guests know what they want: a friendly, low-key place where they can enjoy the freedom and openness of Amsterdam and meet like-minded men from all over the world - and we are proud that they keep coming back for more!
Overlooks the majestic Voorburgwal canal. Anco sit in the midst of the world's most famous red-light district. There are singles, doubles, and dormitory lodgings, and they offer wi-fi. With a colorful history of over 30 years as one of Amsterdam's first gay hotels, the Anco is favored by those who love leather, but all are welcome. There's a pub in the lobby which serves breakfast in the morning for guests and has an early evening bar crowd, as they close at 10pm. Sometimes, when guests come home after a night of cruising the bars, the cruising will continue later around the hotel interior....
The history of the ANCO hotel
the Seventeenth Century
The ANCO wasn't really there in the Seventeenth Century. True. Our building, however, has been facing one of the famous Amsterdam canals since 1640. Not bad at all, when you think of it.
the Seventies
The guys were really horny in the Seventies and the ANCO was there already. That much we can remember.
the Eighties
The guys were really horny in the Eighties and at one point things got a bit out of hand. The ANCO was there all the time.
the Nineties
In the Nineties the ANCO improved quite a bit and became a much nicer hotel. The guys liked it and kept coming and coming.
the Anco now
With fourteen rooms, a friendly and (most of the time) good-humoured staff and a ridiculously short walk away from the bars, the ANCO goes on being the hot place for the guys in Amsterdam.
